Description

These crispy homemade fries are golden on the outside, tender on the inside, and loaded with flavor. Perfect as a side dish or snack, they’re easy to make in the oven or air fryer using simple pantry ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large russet potatoes

  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • ½ teaspoon paprika (optional)

  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

  • Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  • Wash & Cut: Wash potatoes and cut into even sticks. Peel if desired.

  • Soak: Soak the fries in cold water for 30 minutes to remove excess starch.

  • Dry: Drain and pat completely dry.

  • Preheat:

    • Oven: 425°F (220°C)

    • Air Fryer: 390°F (200°C)

  • Season: Toss fries with oil, salt, pepper, and paprika.

  • Cook:

    • Oven: Bake for 25–30 min, flipping halfway.

    • Air Fryer: Cook 15–18 min, shaking halfway through.

  • Garnish: Sprinkle parsley and serve with dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Soaking improves crispiness—don’t skip!

  • For extra flavor, add garlic powder or parmesan before baking.

  • Best served immediately, but can be reheated in an air fryer.

A Little History Behind the Recipe

Homemade fries have humble origins dating back to 18th-century Europe—particularly Belgium and France, where sliced potatoes were first fried and served as a quick street snack. While the term “French fries” became popular thanks to American soldiers in World War I, the tradition of making fries at home has always been a symbol of comfort and simplicity.

Today, homemade fries are a global favorite—easy to customize, budget-friendly, and a perfect way to turn everyday potatoes into a golden, crispy treat. Chef Yous brings you this timeless classic with a homemade twist that’s healthier and just as satisfying as any fast-food version.
