- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups buttermilk (or homemade substitute)
- Optional: 1/2 cup raisins or currants

- Optional: 1 tablespoon sugar
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the buttermilk (and any optional ingredients if using) and mix until combined.
- Gently shape the dough into a round loaf.
- Score a deep X on top of the loaf.
- Place the loaf on a baking sheet and bake for 30-40 minutes until golden brown.
- Let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.
Notes
Don’t over-mix the dough to avoid tough bread. Scoring the top helps it bake evenly.
