- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons hot water
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
- In a bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
- In another bowl, cream the butter and sugar until fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in the milk and vanilla until combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture until just combined.
- Divide the batter in half; add cocoa powder mixed with hot water to one half and mix until combined.
- In the prepared loaf pan, spoon alternating dollops of the vanilla and chocolate batters.
- Use a knife to swirl through the batters gently.
- Bake for 50-60 minutes or until a skewer comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For a beautiful glaze, mix powdered sugar with milk and vanilla to drizzle over the cooled cake.
