Description

Delightful matcha scones that blend traditional British baking with the unique flavor of Japanese matcha.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons ceremonial grade matcha powder
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk or heavy cream, chilled
  • Optional: white chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, matcha powder, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Make a well in the center and add the chilled buttermilk or cream.
  5. Mix gently until the dough just comes together; do not overwork it.
  6. Turn the dough onto a floured surface, pat it into a disc, and cut into wedges or use a round cutter.
  7. Brush the tops with cream or milk for a golden finish.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes until lightly golden and risen.
  9. Serve warm with clotted cream and jam, or try lemon curd for a zestier flavor!

Notes

Ensure to keep all ingredients cold for the best texture. Minimize handling the dough to avoid tough scones.
