Description

A decadent rich hot chocolate made from scratch, perfect for chilly days.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 4 oz high-quality dark chocolate (60-70% cacao), chopped
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • Vanilla bean pod (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, whisk cocoa powder and sugars together.
  2. Add a small amount of milk to create a thick paste.
  3. Over medium-low heat, add the remaining milk and chopped chocolate, whisking constantly.
  4. Heat gently until chocolate is melted and mixture is smooth, being careful not to boil.
  5. If using, add spices or vanilla pod to infuse flavor, steeping off heat for 10-15 minutes.
  6. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve for a smooth texture.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use a mix of whole milk and cream. Adjust sweetness to taste.
