- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix flour, yeast, sugar, salt, olive oil, and warm water until a sticky dough forms.
- Knead the dough for 8-10 minutes until elastic.
- Cover the bowl with a towel and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Shape the dough into a log or ball and place it on a parchment-lined tray. Cover and let it rise until puffy.
- Slash the top of the dough with a sharp knife and bake in a preheated oven at 425°F (220°C) with a tray of hot water underneath for 25-30 minutes.
- The bread should be golden brown and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.
Notes
For an extra flavor boost, brush the top with olive oil before baking. Let cool uncovered to maintain crustiness.
